book club

Photos found here.
last week i attended my first-ever book club! it was just as i imagined it... juicy arguments, intelligent conversation, nice wine, fancy food, innocent fun. i am wondering how i lived so long without being a part of one. [actually, that is a lie. my mom, sister and i did have a book club circa 1996-97. it was as brilliant then as it is today.] as anticipated, the southern gals had a lot to say about a book set in 1960, segregated mississippi. if you are looking for a easy, yet thought provoking read, i would absolutely recommend the help by kathryn stockett.
the last fifteen minutes of the club were dedicated to the reveal. our next book is.... drumroll... the unbearable lightness of being. by milan kundera. apparently it is a classic [oops, i hadn't heard of it] that is a little bit racy and a lot philosophical. i haven't started it yet, but am looking forward to the challenge and change of pace.

"the brain appears to possess a special area which we might call poetic memory and which records everything that charms or touches us, that makes our lives beautiful. love begins with a metaphor. which is to say, love begins at the point when a woman enters her first word into our poetic memory." [milan kundera, the unbearable lightness of being]
so far, so good.
ps- happy 21st birthday to my incredible sister! may your day be filled with love, laughter and light... and the years ahead with your wildest dreams. sending an x and an o across the miles.
