…no, not in the way-too-mature-for-tweens-spice-girl-song type of way. anyone else remember that song? i loved was obsessed with that song. but, more like a holy-cow-we-are-going-to-spend-the-rest-of-our-lives-together type of way. yesterday two of my good friends got engaged. in ireland [both one hundred percent irish. um, perfect.]. i don’t quite know all the details yet, but the news got me thinking. about love. and life. and living as one unit throughout this journey. we spend months, years [seven!], decades worrying, waiting and wanting to find that perfect person to share life with [with a bunch of taylor swift songs in acapella along the way]. and then we do and it is magical. and then that becomes official and it is of cosmic proportions [or so i’m told]. isn’t is overwhelming, sometimes, to feel confident enough in yourself to choose your mate? i mean, how can someone as fickle and self-doubting as myself make the biggest decision of my life at the ripe ole age of twenty-five [although, i’m pretty darn sure i have it all figured out at the moment]? let’s be honest here. only three percent of the world’s four thousand mammal species are considered monogamous and most of them all require a chemical/auditory clue to find the one. but, you just know. don’t you? and you trust. and you work hard at it. and those [happy and sometimes hard] stops along the journey renew your faith in each other.
so here’s to you. to a lifetime of love, a lifetime of laughter, a lifetime of luck, and a lifetime of long marital bliss. may your journey be blessed and bountiful. i cannot wait to come along for the ride [and see the bling!].
