creighton to cape town

home.
 experience.
nelson mandela once said, "i learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. the brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear."
let me tell you a little bit about my sister. to truly describe her is to not use words. instead it's to watch her help underprivileged youth or insist that we don't purchase nike products because of their treatment of workers or start a compost in our backyard [and convince my father to traipse out there in the dead of winter just to add a banana peel] for a more organic garden. the passion and determination she exudes from every cell of her being is admirable. she looks at fear and this world's many injustices with a stone cold face. knowing that she has the power to change it. and mark my words, she will. yet, she has a kind of love, compassion and generosity for every single human being that will bring a sense of peace to this earth just by living in it. she makes me proud beyond words. she is a better person than i ever dream of being. a more beautiful soul than i could ever hope to possess. she is my best friend.
saturday she travels to south africa to embark on the six month adventure of a life time. i am flying home tomorrow for her send off, but come to you tonight with a heavy heart. the selfish sister in me wants her to stay, but that heavy heart knows this will be the most incredible experience she will ever encounter.

so sister, may you remember the open fields and loving home that you came from. yet, let this opportunity change every morsel of your being. may you find friendship, enlightenment, peace, fulfillment, clarity, and LOVE. and may you always remember you have the an army of support in the USofA.
and dear readers, may you flood the gates with prayers for health, safety, and a life defining experience.
counting down until june 10th.
